It is sometimes funny how people step inside a shoe store or
fashion boutique only turn to turn and leave again without even touching
anything inside the store. Sometimes they’re just intimidated, feeling unwelcome
or just plain uncomfortable. While you can’t beg your customer to stay longer
to make a purchase, you can
at least do something to make them feel relaxed and
at ease as soon as they step inside your store.
Everything in your store affects the shopping behavior of
your customers. From the store sign, lighting, store layout, product display,
price range, packaging and other small things all contribute on how long your
customers will stay inside your store. As a business owner, you should find a
way to make them feel at ease so they can have an unforgettable shopping
experience every time they drop by in your store. Here’s what you can do to
make customers feel comfortable.
- Keep your Store clean
Nothing distracts a shopper more
than a litter on the floor, dusts all over the shelves or an over flowing
garbage cans. Create a homey feeling inside your store by keeping it clean and
free from any clutter. Regularly clean shopping carts and baskets, shelves,
mirrors, and chairs to keep thing neat and orderly. Always make sure to clean
signage, LED message board, TV or other electronic products inside your store
to keep their quality and performance.
- Keep Displays Fresh
People’s interests vary from time
to time and it’s best to keep them interested by changing window displays
regularly and keeping product displays updated with the latest items. If you
also hold promos every season, make sure to change promotional posters and an
advertisement in LED signs to keep your message fresh and up to date.
- Keep Your Items Well Lighted
Lighting has a powerful effect in
the mood and behavior of your customers. Do a research on how you can keep the
store lighting appropriate for your store space or consult a professional about
it. Make sure to highlight your featured products so they will be properly
informed about what’s new and what’s hot in the market.
- Keep your Staffs Well Trained
Do you understand how a customer
feels each time they step inside your store? They’re often apprehensive and
anxious about what they will experience while shopping. Ease away any
awkwardness they have and help make them comfortable by training your staffs on
how to greet customer as they walk in. Train them about basic customer service
and etiquettes on how to deal with people doing their shopping. Customers will
surely appreciate it most of the time.
- Keep Your Products in Proper Order
The way you place your products
around your store is also one factor that unconsciously affect your customers.
Make sure to place low priced items nearest to the store entrance and the high
priced items at the back of the store. This will make shoppers navigate better
around your store instead of being easily intimidated by the price range of
your product items.
How about you? How do you make
sure your customers feel comfortable inside your store? Does it affect the way
your shoppers make their purchase? Share us your thoughts.
